As many of you know, I’ve been trying to live a healthier lifestyle for the last few months. I’ve had my ups and downs, as we all do, but feel I am finally on the way to leading a healthy lifestyle – for good.
To keep myself going (and to see where I need to improve) I’ve been using iPhone apps. Earlier this week, I found out about SlimKicker on the iPhone App store. I immediately downloaded the app to check it out and loved what I saw!
Basically, SlimKicker motivates you by allowing you to gain points and “level-up” in the following categories: diet, exercise, and challenges. I think it’s great to have different ways to earn points because some days I tend to slack off by not exercising but I still eat healthy foods. So, I get rewarded for my good eating instead of feeling miserable about my lack exercise. You can also join challenges like “Put your sneakers on for 10 minutes a day” – because once those sneakers are on you know you want to run!
You can also use SlimKicker to log your daily calories and exercise (you earn points for eating nutritious food and exercising). You can create your own recipes and add foods if you can’t find them in the database already, which is perfect for me because I make 95% of the food I eat.
SlimKicker enables you to upload an image of a reward that you will give yourself after you earn a certain number of points (can you say shopping spree?)
SlimKicker would like your input and will reward one lucky guy or gal who can come up with a creative new challenge for their website. All you have to do is reply in the comments with a fun and creative fitness or diet challenge, about 1-2 sentences long. When I was slimming down for my off-the-rack wedding dress I only drank water or (unsweetened) herbal tea. It’s amazing how many calories we drink in a day without even thinking (or counting them)!
An awesome challenge, especially for someone like me (I drink way too much diet coke!)
Get an open jar and tape a piece of paper on it. On that piece of paper write down something you want (a book, article of clothing, vacation, etc.). Instead of buying that coffee, cookie or muffin, put money in the jar. You can save money and avoid those treats!

Make time to eat a healthy breakfast every morning! Eating breakfast gets your metabolism going early so you end up burning more calories by the end of the day. It’s one of the best ways to help lose and maintain your weight and it gives you energy to start your day right!

For one week, create a different healthy recipe every day using purple, green and yellow (you can use blue instead of purple so lots of berry possibilities). It can be a recipe for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, appetizer, whatever, but note the word “healthy”, which means using Froot Loops does not count. ;)

Go for a ‘power’ walk, 45-60 minutes, everyday. Even better, walk with a friend! Great exercise and relieves stress.
